About 12 years ago I was obsessed with Pokemon. (Still am, but this tale takes place during the height of my obsession). I carried around a stuffed Pikachu everywhere pretending to live my life as a Pokemon trainer. My dad tried to get me to stop, but when I refused and told him to how much Pokemon meant to me he said, “By the time you graduate college you are not even gonna know who Pikachu is anymore”

About back story: My characters tend to have a lot of it, and I understand that this is a good thing. But I also have trouble /pacing/ it throughout the story so that the reader doesn’t get overwhelmed. And it just feels like I’m doing this:…
